Estoril - António Sachetti
Estoril is the most glamorous of the towns that lead along the coast from Cascais to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Estoril was once a small spa location but it became known as the "Portuguese Riviera" as a result of the migration of royalty during the World Wars. The Kings of Italy, Spain, Austria-Hungary and Romania all made their homes here after fleeing their own countries.
Due its close proximity to Lisbon, pleasant beach and the comfortable evening atmosphere, Estoril has long been popular with tourists from northern Europe and America. There are several golf courses within easy reach.
Bars, restaurants and discoteques stretch along a pleasant sea front that links the coastal towns from Cascais onwards. Casino Estoril is the largest casino in Europe and a venue for many international recording artists, live shows and cabarets throughout the year. Alongside the gardens are several open air bars and restaurants which provide good food and friendly service without being overly expensive.
