Restaurants in the Algarve
With so many food restaurants in the Algarve this listing cannot be described as definitive. However, we hope that readers will find the restaurants that we´ve included provide enough variety to be useful.
The Moors introduced oranges, tangerines, almonds and figs to Portugal and these find their way into many of the Algarve´s sweets and cakes. Look out for doces de amêndoas, (almond cakes), made from ground almonds and orange flower water, as well as the bolos, morgados and pastéis, often each town will have it´s own unique concoctions.
The various lagoons that provide shellfish in great numbers, the clams, cocles and oysters are of a very high quality, with baby squid and sardines also popular. Mixed seafood, meat and vegetables are cooked and served in a domed dish called a cataplana.
And don´t worry if meat is your thing, the chicken piri-piri, carne de porco and bifes are generally of a high quality wherever you find yourself eating.
